Hemp clothes make sense

Hemp clothing offers distinct advantages in comfort and durability and significant benefits for the economic and environmental sustainability of our planet.

  • Hemp clothing absorbs and releases perspiration quickly and breathes well
  • Hemp clothing holds up to repeated washings and never needs dry cleaning
  • Hemp clothing absorbs dye easily and retains color well
  • Hemp clothing is naturally anti-microbial
  • Hemp clothing is resistant to mold and mildew
  • Hemp fabric gets softer, the more it’s washed and worn
  • Hemp is one of the most durable fibers on the planet – so strong they can replace metal and glass. Hemp fiber also has incredible tensile strength. Compared to cotton denim, 100% hemp fabric had 62% greater tear strength and 102% greater tensile strength

Hemp’s positive environmental influence

Hemp grows rapidly and requires little water and no pesticides or herbicides. Its deep roots anchor and aerate the soil in which it’s grown. Hemp produces more fiber per acre than trees, cotton or flax (linen).

Hemp is much kinder to the Earth than conventionally grown cotton. Like hemp, cotton is a natural fiber, but growing it accounts for a significant portion of the pesticides and insecticides sprayed on the world’s crops. In this way, cotton has negative impacts on health, water and worker safety. (See Organic Trade Association.)

Growing demand for hemp clothing

The Hemp Industries Association estimates that the North American retail market for hemp textiles and clothing  grew from 10% per year in 2003 to 75% in 2016. As hemp clothing becomes more mainstream, customers can choose it for health, environmental and aesthetic reasons. It’s a win-win for consumers and for the Earth!

One of the best Eco fabrics supplier, also my choice for hemp and biodegradable products  is EnviroTextiles. Envirotextiles, LLC is the manufacturer and importer of over 100 hemp fabrics world wide and a leading consultant for the Colorado hemp industry.  Many of these fabrics are used by designers such as Ralph Lauren, Versace, Volkswagen VW motor company and many others. EnviroTextiles located in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, is a pioneer in sustainable textiles, specializing in hemp fabric and a variety of organic fibers. (Not affiliated with any of the above mentioned companies, just a big fan and consumer)

Why Eco-fabrics

Conventional fabric manufacturing is one of the most toxic processes in the world. Traditional crops like cotton dump millions of tons of pesticides into the environment worldwide each year, while sucking up our precious water supply. Just why are pesticides, dyes, and chemicals so terrible? Well, anything designed to kill indiscriminately can’t be good, but did you know that many of these chemicals are also epigenetic? That means that the changes they make to us at a genetic level in our generation become heritable to our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren…Does this suddenly make “wrapping your goodies in environmentally friendly goodness” seem like a really good plan?
Hemp is the superstar of eco-fabrics. Hemp is so green, It requires no pesticides, little weeding, and grows super fast. It even enriches the soil it leaves behind. Hemp has been used for millennia in clothing around the world, and requires no chemicals to be spun into cloth.

  • so green it’s carbon negative
  • strongest natural fiber
  • pesticide free
  • fast growing
  • enriches the soil it is grown in
  • used for thousands of years
  • blocks UV rays
  • quick interaction between elements

Actually all this made me start NA NATION back in 2016, my passion for green, clean and natural. The long gone interaction between us and Earth’s elements – so sacred, so fascinating!

The quick interaction Hemp – salt – herbs in Thera SM/GH is a powerful way of breaking blood/brain/barrier (BBB) amplifying all healing processes in your brain and body,  rejuvenating your entire body extremely fast and completely naturally

The weaving of hemp fabrics is one of the world’s oldest industries, and soon will be the only sustainable path left for our future. Our ancestors used hemp 10,000 years ago because of its extremely high fiber content and multiple uses. By planting hemp instead of cotton today, we can produce 250% more fiber on the same amount of land. Since hemp is resistant to insects and diseases, it requires no pesticides. By way of contrast, non-organic cotton growers are responsible for over 50% of world pesticide use. Since non-organic cotton is often rotated with certain food crops, toxic pesticides build up and find their way into our meals. Run-off from non-organic cotton fields further pollutes streams, lakes, and all the creatures that depend on them.

Aside from the myriad environmental reasons for supporting the growing hemp industry, one might also be persuaded by the fabric’s legendary strength. In fact, hemp is the most durable of natural fibers: 3 times more durable than cotton. The extended life of hemp means that if everyone wore it, we could reduce by one third the resources needed to clothe the planet.

Hemp cotton blends are both more absorbent and more mildew resistant than 100% cotton. Fabric made using 50% or higher of hemp will block more UV rays than non-hemp fabrics. Have you ever noticed that hemp-made garments don’t create static? That is because hemp has the same net static charge as human skin, resonating perfectly with our electromagnetic fields.

How to care for your hemp clothing

Hemp clothing is easy to care for and tolerates hot water temperatures well. (Wash cold to minimize impacts on the environment.) If your hemp garment has been preshrunk as has, a hot dryer will not harm it. Hemp clothing can be air dried quickly.

If you get a food or dirt stain on your hemp clothing, put some laundry soap on the spot and let it sit for a few minutes before washing. That is usually sufficient to remove the spot. Hemp doesn’t need dry cleaning. Depending upon its fabrication, your hemp clothing may need to be touched up with a hot iron. As the hemp grows softer with laundering and wear, ironing becomes less and less critical.(Wrinkles can usually be dealt with by simply spritzing them with water.)

My favourite hemp clothing brand is NOMADS Hemp Wear, no coupons or discounts for their summer or fall collection yet, except 10%off when you subscribe

What’s the Difference Between Hemp and Marijuana

Hemp and marijuana come from the same plant species, Cannabis sativa, but there are noted differences between the two plants, coming from different strands.

  •  They both contain cannabidiol (CBD), which has medicinal properties. The amount of CBD however, differs greatly between the two. Dosing, therefore, is dramatically different when you  try to use hemp in lieu of cannabis for medicinal purposes
  • Another difference that appears to matter in terms of its usefulness as medicine relates to different terpene profiles. (primary terpenes and terpenoids identified in hemp oil are limonene, myrcene, pinene, linalool, eucalyptol, γ-terpinene, β-caryophyllene, caryophyllene oxide, nerolidol and phytol) The wide array of medicinal properties of terpenes and the fact that each has many different medical benefits gives rise to the overlapping synergies between them; the strategy of deliberately overlapping benefits greatly increases the chances of good results in treatment.
  • Lastly, there’s the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content. THC is the psychoactive component of marijuana; it’s the molecule that makes you feel “stoned.” Cannabidiol (CBD)  found in hemp has no psychoactive properties. It does NOT produce a high.) So to summarize:
  • Hemp only contains CBD but  medicinal terpenes and flavonoids are still present. Hemp will NOT get you stoned (no narcotic psychoactive effect)
  • Marijuana can act as a potent medicine courtesy of high amounts (about 10 to 20 percent) of CBD, critical levels of medicinal terpenes, and flavonoids, as well as THC in varying ratios for various diseases. The higher the THC, the more pronounced its psychoactive effects.

Health Benefits of Hemp seeds & Hemp oil

Hemp is extremely unusual in the diversity of products for which it is or can be cultivated. Popular Mechanics magazine (1938) touted hemp as ‘the new billion dollar crop,’ stating that it ‘can be used to produce more than 25,000 products, ranging from dynamite to Cellophane.'”

One of the under-appreciated benefits of hemp, is as a food source. Hemp seeds, which are technically a nut and are also known as “hemp hearts,” are rich in healthy fats, protein, and minerals.

Hemp seeds are usually consumed after the hard outer shell is removed, leaving just the soft, creamy “heart” behind. The seeds have a slight nutty flavor, making them incredibly versatile for use in cooking, baking, or for adding to smoothies and salads. Some of their primary health benefits include:

Excellent Source of Nutrition

  1. Hemp seeds are composed of more than 30 percent healthy fats, including the essential fatty acids linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid (plant-based omega-3).
  2. Hemp seeds also contain gamma-linolenic acid, which supports the normal function and growth of cells, nerves, muscles, and organs throughout your body.Hemps seeds are about 25 percent protein and also provide nutrients including vitamin E, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron, and zinc.
  3. Heart Health – Hemp seeds contain numerous heart-healthy compounds, including the amino acid arginine. L-arginine is a precursor to nitric oxide in your body. It has been shown to enhance blood flow and help you maintain optimal blood pressure. Nitric oxide signals the smooth muscle cells in your blood vessels to relax, so that your vessels dilate and your blood flows more freely. This helps your arteries stay free of plaque. When you have inadequate nitric oxide, your risk for coronary artery disease increases. The gamma-linolenic acid found in hemp seeds is anti-inflammatory, another bonus for heart health. Past research has also shown hemp seeds may help reduce blood pressure, decrease the risk of blood clots, and boost recovery after a heart attack.
  4. Skin Health  – Fatty-acid deficiency can manifest in a variety of ways, but skin problems such as eczema, thick patches of skin, and cracked heels are common. Hemp seeds are a rich source of fatty acids in the optimal omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. Research suggests hempseed oil may improve symptoms of atopic dermatitis and potentially provide relief from eczema.

Powerful anti inflammatory properties backed by nano technology makes hemp oil secret ingredient in the beauty and skincare industry CannaCeuticals CBD line of magical 8 products

  1. Plant-Based Protein  – Best Hemp protein on the market
  • Source of protein that helps build and repair body tissues.
  • Source of amino acids involved in muscle protein synthesis.
  • Assists in the building of lean muscle.
  • An adaptogen to help maintain a healthy immune system.
  • Supportive therapy for the promotion of healthy glucose levels.
  • Hemp has long been recognized by the health and nutrition industry as a superfood, cited in many publications as a balanced source of all ingredients required to achieve health and wellness.

Although I believe protein from high-quality animal sources is beneficial for most people, if you are following a plant-based diet, hemp makes a healthy source of protein. With all of the essential amino acids and an amount of protein similar to beef (by weight), hemp seeds are an excellent form of plant-based protein.

Two to three tablespoons of hemp seeds provides about 11 grams of protein, complete with the amino acids lysine, methionine, and cysteine. Two main proteins in hemp seed protein, albumin and edestin, are rich in essential amino acids, with profiles comparable to soy and egg white. Hemp’s edestin content is among the highest of all plants. Hemp protein is also easy to digest because of its lack of oligosaccharides and trypsin inhibitors, which can affect protein absorption.  What else:

  1. PMS and Menopause Symptoms
  2. The gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) in hemp seeds produces prostaglandin E1, which reduces the effects of the hormone prolactin. Prolactin is thought to play a role in the physical and emotional symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). GLA in hemp seeds may also help reduce the symptoms of menopause.
  3. Digestion
  4. Whole hemp seeds contain both soluble and insoluble fiber, which may support digestive health and more. Soluble fiber dissolves into a gel-like texture, helping to slow down your digestion. This helps you to feel full longer and is one reason why fiber may help with weight control. Insoluble fiber does not dissolve at all and helps add bulk to your stool. This helps food to move through your digestive tract more quickly for healthy elimination.
  5. Hemp alkalize and balance PH level to highest concentration
  6. Fiber plays an essential role in your digestive, heart, and skin health, and may improve blood sugar control, weight management, and more. Please note that only whole hemp seeds contain high amounts of fiber; the de-shelled hemp seeds or “hearts” contain very little fiber.

Hemp – Environmentally Friendly Alternative to Plastic

Hemp plastic is a “material of the future” that could drastically cut down on the need for plastics and their devastating toll on the environment. In some cases, standard plastics may be reinforced with hemp, which may account for up to 80 percent of the plastic’s weight. Hemp can also be used to make 100 percent hemp plastic, which is recyclable and can be 100 percent biodegradable.

Currently, the most common type of hemp plastics are those infused with hemp fibers, which means less plastic is used and the resulting product is more durable (hemp plastic is said to be five times stiffer and 2.5 times stronger than polypropylene). According to Hempowered.com:

Using sustainable and renewable natural plant fibers (such as hemp, flax, jute, and kenaf) and through industrial production techniques that mix them into plastics, a new award winning (Biomaterial of the year 2010) granule has been made from a combination of hemp with polypropylene, thus reducing the use of petroleum products.

… Their recoverable component comes from these natural plants and can make up over half of their weight, up to 80 percent. All these features make them suitable for the production of durable products. Hemp Plastic granules offer many advantages like good insulation, dimensional stability at high temperatures, a high thermal deformation temperature, and impermeability… The granules are currently produced for a range of applications in automobiles, construction materials, packaging, toys, and electronic products and launched onto the market in 2010.”

Trees need our help, and we need the trees to survive!

We can learn so much from nature, communication is the bond we need to survive, thrive and live happy. I personally underestimate the importance of teamwork and often this is the only missing link for  success!

We share a lot of our DNA with Trees, and we are symbiotic partners in this world. We need each other and share a common destiny. If they go, we go…just like the bees. This isn’t a planet where one species alone can survive. We must have respect for the web of life around us. Hemp is just one piece of the puzzle to fixing things, but it plays a major role.

How Trees communicate between each other – Aren’t we just the same

The US Gov knew about Hemp and how it could help the forests and people … all the way back in 1916!
